Baby Isis

Isis is our youngest cat at the sanctuary, being born on 12/9/01. She is the only Royal White Bengal tiger we have here and is definitely a handful. She really enjoys playing with both the staff and other cats here at the compound. Leaping is her favorite thing to do and she will jump on or off just about anything. Physically, she's finished growing, weighing a little over 300lbs, but mentally, she still has a little way to go. Just about every few weeks, we see a new trait, skill, or tolerance level change in her as she matures. Cubs and sub-adult cats will usually have a very different demeanor once they have matured.

About Royal White Bengal Tigers

The Royal White Bengal Tiger is the same as a Bengal tiger but with white fur instead of orange. The stripes on a white tiger are usually chocolate brown and may even be faint giving the appearance of an all white coat. The white tiger has blue eyes and is not an albino as people often think.

In 1951 Maharaja Shri Martand Singh found a white male tiger cub inIsis the wild and named him Mohan. In an effort to produce more white tigers, Mohan was bred to an orange Bengal tiger named Begum. They produced three litters of all orange cubs, and it was not until Mohan was bred with his own daughter from the second litter that four white tiger cubs were born. After reading this you will probably realize that since father was bred to daughter, the white tigers produced would be considered to be inbred. As a result of their lineage, white tigers may have genetic problems that cause anomalies such as being cross-eyed or having bone deformations.
