August, 2005

So much has happened since this website was built in 2002. As many of you may know, there have been a LOT of changes here at Destiny. There have been a few staff changes, as well as a change in the overall stability of the sanctuary itself. Yet still, Destiny Big Cat Sanctuary remains, fighting "tooth & nail". Perhaps the most single biggest change here at the sanctuary was the loss of Taz, our beloved Siberian lynx. Please check out his page and photo album under the "Cats" orange banner above, or click on his name in this paragraph.

Since 2002, Destiny has no longer been able to afford to put on the Tigers Romping in the Snow holiday party. We are always asked when are we going to do another one as the community really seemed to enjoy them. For anyone who ever attended, it was obvious that a lot of money was spent to put on the event. However, Destiny never made enough back to even cover the costs of putting on the party. With the changes in the economy, as well as the drastic drop in donations and support, Destiny had to discontinue the annual event. We hope to be able to put them on again as the cats really enjoy getting to play in the "mysterious, cold, white stuff" !

Due to the fact that financially, we cannot in good conscience take in any more cats due to our situation, we have begun to help other sanctuaries in joint fundraising events. These events help us to maintain our cats, as well has give a boost to the other sanctuary who is able to take in another cat. As of late, we have been able to give "Walk on the Wild Side" tours. Guests get to tour our facility, see our staff interact with our residents, and then get to visit with tiger cubs from our visiting sactuary.

The latest tour was booked by a new, and very dear friend to Destiny, James Brunner and his wonderful family. Jim owns and operates Natural Wonders Landscaping, and is donatiing his time and expertise to repair, and improve the pools and waterfalls that are in the tigers' habitats. Jim brought his family, friends, and employees out for a walk on the wild side. The group had a great time outside with the big guys, and of course, turned to mush when they came inside to visit with cubs from the other sanctuary.

Be sure to check out the photo albums to see photos of the different events that Destiny has hosted.

Sept. 9th & 10th

What a busy weekend. Our good friend Jim Brunner and his family hosted another "Walk on the Wild Side" party for some more of their friends on Friday Sept. 9th. And, just like his last party, it was a hit. All present had a great time. Then, on Saturday night, the Destiny staff hosted a small party for the people who helped out with all of the clean up after Hurricane Katrina. The sanctuary is quite finished yet, as there are still some trees to cut, and some piles to haul off of the property, the majority of the work that got the sanctuary back up and running was completed because of the people who gave their time...and sweat!!!!! Please check out some of the photos from the party. And also, read about all of the work that was done.
